BBC school report. what is news?

what is news?

In 1973 blumer and katz come developed 'the uses and gratification theory'.
Arguing audiences consume media text for one or more of the four reasons:
1. Information
2. Entertainment
3. Socialism (replacing people with tv)
4. Surveillance

News = facts/Information
but because the 'news' you see on tv, online and newspapers is also a product that has to sell to a target audience it can also be entertaining and this may distract from facts.

"police find 19 white bodies in freezers with "black people matter"carved into skin"
"rage against the machine to reunite and release anti Donald Trump album"
