Video Game

L/O: to explain how vertical integration benefits companies; To analyse using the Uses & Gratification theory.

Example of a lego game:

examples of films/ video games release:

  1. Charlie and the chocolate factory
  2. Simpsons
  3. spiderman
  4. star wars
  5. harry potter

Why do companies often release tie-in video games alongside the films?

Companies often release tie-in video games because if it costs money to release the game they will get the money in through them. The games can be released before the film. By the companies releasing the films before can promote the film and shows the narrative about the films and see if people would like the film first. It also brought profit in to the films. Interaction that you don't always get in the film.

  • Profit Maximised
  • Familiarity
  • Extends the pleasure of the film
  • The game promotes the film, the film promotes the game

Applying this to the lego film:

The lego movie made money by releasing the lego movie game before the film which it also helped them make more money.

The Lego Movie was very familiar because the brand and some of the characters were already well known The lego game is also got the same characters and same setting as the film.

The Lego Movie game gave people a chance to let people know what the film is going to be like or because people really enjoyed the films and wanted to interact more with the film and get to play as one of the characters.

The game promotes the film or the film promotes the game because they will always have something to do with the game or the film because it would have the same narrative and it can show it in the film or have an ad about the film or the game in an advert break.
